When we talk about Valentine’s day and we could instantly think of all the extravaganza of red hearts and teddy bears and chocolates and what not. But at times you yearn to take a break from all the lovey dovey stuff. Well it has nothing to do with your relationship status. I am in a ‘serious’ relationship from last nine years, still I find all this valentine shopping cheesy and overboard at times. *sigh!
At times I want a valentine’s day just as normal as any of the weekends that I spend with my beloved…this is a perfect couple counselling for me and my boyfriend, that does not include dressing up like a diva or talking about everything sugar coated and honey dipped.
Admit it, at one point of time or the other, almost many of us have ached for such things. To have beer instead of exotic red wine; to dress up in shorts rather than all formal; to have a moment in moon light than candle light and to watch some sci-fi or comedy movies than those utterly butterly romantic ones.
So in ‘celebration’ of special occasion, here is a list of films sans love story — a loveless bunch for timeless couples who have a taste for movies.
Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
Pat suffers from bipolar disorder and seeks the silver lining in everything he experiences. Things change after his meeting with a young widow Tiffany who dances as therapy to combat depression. She asks him to join her for an upcoming dance competition paving a way for highly entertaining recovery. Strange yet delightful, this movie may make you enroll in dance classes sometime soon.
PS: the chemistry between Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper is worth watching. ☺
Jane (Meryl Streep), a divorced mother of three running a successful bakery in California rekindles with her estranged husband Jake (Steve Martin) and begins an affair, 10 years after their divorce. Amazing!
But then enters a really-nice guy, Adam, who is head over heels for Jane. And then things slowly get out of hands.
Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) finds himself the centre of attraction of the entire media when his wife Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike) disappears on the day of their fifth wedding anniversary. This shockingly good film version of Gone Girl the novel would be quite an interesting watch as a couple.
Just one reason…Mila Kunis! This story depicts a great marriage, over-achieving kids, beautiful home and a career along with Mila Kunis who is over-worked and exhausted to the point that she’s about to snap. Somewhere this portrays the rat race and juggling between home and career that almost every girl has faced at one point of time.
This animated movie portrays one of the most progressive and determined characters of Disney, who, in a bid to make her own path in life, defy a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom. Brave’s Merida is one of the stronger female protagonists who is a better archer than cupid.
Julia Louis Dreyfus and James Gandolfini – *Nuff said! If you are done with the over-glossy romantic flicks, then this is what you should have your hands on. Enough Said is the perfect movie that is witty and funny romantic comedy for grown-ups. It depicts flawed characters sans any melodrama.
